Ah, A Nightmare Or A Dream - 4th Wall Crossover Event!

For those in Auradon or the Isle it might seem that this world seemed to have a thing for sleep spells, for another one fell upon the denizens of the Isle, Auradon, and even distant Gaia. For those in Auradon they would feel it coming with enough time to lay down comfortably. On the Isle they would just drop where they were. On Gaia, it depends on the person. Some will be able to get to sleep normally, however they do so, while others may or may not just drop down where they stand. Unless of course they were already asleep; as this happened at noon on the Isle, but at midnight in Auradon and late at night on Gaia as well. A given character's mileage may vary. And once again, yes this affects characters who normally neither sleep nor dreamed.

To sleep. To sleep. Perchance to dream. To dream together. Ay, there is the rub. For once again dreams are bleeding into each other. Dreaming they are the age they are in game generally, or any younger age, and it can change from thread to thread, moment to moment.

The sleeping Jordan had still, even asleep, been trying to fix things, but her power had struck someone who existed in multiple worlds at once and her power shattered. It drew in not just those in Auradon and those on the Isle, but those on Gaia as well, and beyond.

Dreamers may think that they are awake, or they may know they are asleep. Each sees themselves in the place they had been before, the way they saw the place more than how it actually was but also... a few other changes. For those who had been in Auradon they are likely to find random things - trees, buildings, furniture - are now made of candy that tastes like whatever they expect or even hope it will taste like. For those who fell asleep on the Isle the area seems even darker than usual, and the wind blows so that a haunted sounding moaning can be heard. That... is just the wind... right? For those On Gaia, it truly depends on the person. Some will have happy dreams, while others will have nightmares. And since most people dream more than one thing per sleep session, the same person may dream good things some of the time and bad things some of the time. And for those from further, they would see their own worlds with either tricks or treats overlayed in the ways of dreams.

The one thing they would all see however, are the portals. They could look like shining gems or metal rings filled with colour, or dark ovals with purple flames, or nearly anything that the dreamer would see as a portal. Those portals, when entered would take the person from their own dream into another. That dream would be the world of another dreamer, or a shared space, merging where they both thought they were. With practice, those who knew that they were dreaming would learn to manipulate whatever dream realm they are in to their tastes.

As dreams, aspects of the characters' normal dreams or nightmares might intrude. The area is malleable to more than just the conscious minds. Waking for those whose bodies are in Auradon or on the Isle is difficult and any victory over the dreams is short lived. The effect only gets stronger as time goes on. By the end of the event, all of the Missrecalled and Misery-called are trapped for the duration...

"Jump," she verified. "I don't think you want me to elaborate just now, but whatever you are imagining, it is probably worse."

He was grateful she at least had some restraint around Lilo. There were many things he would like to ask in private, but on the other hand he hoped he would not get the chance. The last thing he needed was Lilo getting separated from them.

"There doesn't seem to be anyone else in here," he remarked. Hopefully that was true. That would be the best case scenario.

"And now you see why I am so eager to join your adventure. This whole thing has been more dull than the Isle usually is. At least normally I can tease Moon some."

“The Isle? … There was someone who mentioned a place called the Isle. It had something to do with a place called Auradon.”

He wasn’t sure whether to mention that someone was another version of him.

"Auradon is across the sea from the Isle. Also boring, but with better food."

"Islands are good."

"Generally, but not this time."

“I see. He said the people on the Isle are stranded except when ships come to take the people to Auradon. He said some willingly stay on the Isle, something he did not understand.”

"I'm one of the ones who chooses to stay. It's a prison isle and well..." she shrugged. "I've been harder to escape prisons. I did go to Auradon for a brief time, then chose to come back to the Isle."

"I doubt I will ever understand the appeal of such a place," Sephiroth remarked. "He also said magic is cut off there. If one doesn't have any it wouldn't make a difference, but I have quite a bit."

"Oh it isn't just magic, technology doesn't work right either. It does make everything into quite the challenge." She shook her head. "Remaining has nothing to do with the place being appealing."

He flicked a wing. It sounded horrible. "Then why on earth ..."

"There seem to be three main groups of people on the Isle. Actual criminals sent there for a reason. Those of us who choose to remain. And the new comers, people who just randomly arrive on the Isle, and most of those new arrivals tend to be children. So some like Foulques and Chell stay so that they can care for the children that arrive until they can be sent on to Auradon. And then there is a young programmer who came from Auradon to try and fix some of the communication technologies of the Isle. I suppose you can also say that among those who choose to stay are those who feel they do not deserve to go to Auradon, who feel they would have been sent to the Isle for their own crimes."

"What kind of crimes?" Lilo asked.

River stretched a small slow smile. "Oh all sorts. But you'd have to find them and ask them, a story is more fun to get it from the person the story is about. Besides, I'm a terrible liar, and you can't trust a thing I say," she said, smile widening as she winked.

He frowned deeply. "This person did mention children being sent to the Isle," he remembered. "He was quite furious about it."

He pondered. Had he ended up in such a world, especially in the past, would he have thought he belonged on the Isle? He could picture that of himself. Perhaps the other him had had such a struggle.

"I'd say no one is exactly happy about it, but then Foulques did find a new sibling in one of the children." Perhaps two, depending how one classed Sun.

“I suppose that has been good for them both,” Sephiroth mused. Meeting Zack had certainly been wonderful for both of them … until later. Even though Zack didn’t hold what happened against him.

"Perhaps. I suspect the child in this case would get along with Lilo in some... rather concernign ways. Then again, perhaps not."

"A friend?!" Lilo asked, eager.

Sephiroth winced at that. "Who is this child?"

So he would know who to try to avoid.

"The child's name is Chara," River said.

"Chara...." Lilo repeated.

"Best not to let Chara have a knife, apparently..."

Well, that was disturbing.

"... I will remember that."

"Good. Is that what we are looking for?" River asked, pointing to a portal.

"Yes, it is," Sephiroth said in relief. "I'll need to seal it even though so far it doesn't seem like anything dangerous is in this dream. Dreams can change in an instant."

"If I go with you and we seal it, how exactly do I get back?" River asked, brows raised.

"I can send you back," Sephiroth said. "I am able to teleport and create portals."

"Then what are we waiting for?" she asked stepping closer to him, grinning.

Sephiroth really hoped he wasn't going to regret this. He started to seal the portal. After he did that, he would open a portal of his own for them to walk through.

"But we didn't see any evil angels!" Lilo protested.

"Just as well," River said with a wink. "They send you back in time and let you live to death, rather boring really."
